Professor Bryan Horrigan
…our Faculty held a planning day to lay the foundations for a major review of the LLB and JD curricula that would mark the transition from a focus on content knowledge to a focus on progressive development of graduate competencies. We made a deliberate choice to invite Professor Kift as the pre-eminent teaching and learning scholar and authority on legal education. Her individual and collaborative work on setting standards for teaching and learning in law sets the markers in this field.
As the keynote speaker, Professor Kift gave an excellent presentation on the task of curriculum reform, the regulatory requirements and the options for incorporating the ALTC Standards for Law into our courses. She summarised the scholarship of education and the regulatory context which underpinned the Standards and their application to our courses. She indicated that she would be available to provide advice to the faculty in working through our curriculum review. Our faculty has been greatly assisted by her mentoring and her academic leadership in legal education.
